When a company announces that they are rebooting a cherished franchise, they have a very fine line to walk. Mess with the core concept of the franchise and consumers wont be happy, but dont alter the franchise enough and customers will think that you were not being creative and the reboot was a waste. Its been a long time since we last saw Lara Croft in a full-fledged adventure. Thankfully, Crystal Dynamics and Square-Enix took their time in rebooting the classic franchise and delivered one of the best games of 2013.

Whatever Happened To... The Legacy of Kain

Added: 18.03.2013 12:19 | 4 views | 0 comments

With the Twilight fervor/hatred dying down in recent months, its the perfect time to resurrect a video game vampire series that hasnt been seen in quite some time. The Legacy of Kain series, developed first by Silicon Knights and later by Crystal Dynamics, spanned from 1996 to 2003. The events of the series were largely influenced or directly impacted by the titular character, Kain. At one time, Kain was a regular human being (a wealthy man or a noble, if memory serves) who was murdered and cursed to return to the living world as a vampire to seek revenge on his killers. These earlier events in the life of Kain were detailed in the first game, Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain.

3 Things Uncharted Can Learn From Tomb Raider

PixlBit | "When it was announced that Tomb Raider was getting the reboot treatment a few years ago, plenty of people yours truly included made it clear that Lara should pay close attention to that other tomb raiding franchise headlined by Nolan North errr - Nathan Drake. The point is many people looked at Uncharted as Tomb Raider for the current generation. The guys at Crystal Dynamics had their work cut out for them if they didnt want to be square in the middle of Naughty Dogs giant shadow."

AtomicGamer: "Tomb Raider delivers a slick, fun time with plenty of collectibles, great action, and an excellent main character. It's not exactly what those of us who played the original might have been expecting in a reboot, what with third-person cover shooting and linear platform action dominating the time spent playing. Rather than being in confident control of her adventure, Lara starts out fragile and desperately trying to survive, and that theme manages to permeate throughout the entire game. It works, but it's going to wear thin quickly if Crystal Dynamics relies on it for too long, so I hope that they expand things out and give Lara her confidence back for the next game. Tomb Raider might not be what we expected and the online play is a bust, but this is still a wonderful solo game that really rounds out the excellent selection of new titles we're seeing for a month like March."

ActionTrip: "Crystal Dynamics have successfully reestablished one of the most popular video game heroines. Its a shame that the gameplay isnt as inventive and fun as the tale thats being told."
